Rubén Quiza Art Statement: Playful Distortions
His art embodies a playful and whimsical distortion of reality, where he delights in deforming, warping, and altering forms from their natural states. By infusing these shapes with life, he creates organic, dynamic structures that transport viewers to another dimension. His themes are both futuristic and fun, often interwoven with elements of nature. They draw inspiration from his childhood meditation walks along the stunning coast of his hometown, Ladrido, where he contemplated the world around him. This reflective experience allowed him to perceive shapes and figures that he later transformed into organic forms with functionality. He utilizes a variety of noble materials, such as wood and metal, while also incorporating futuristic elements like acrylic, neoprene, and silicone. As a creative Pisces, he finds inspiration in Dalí’s art and the Art Nouveau movement, both of which embrace natural forms, sinuous curves, and a sense of dynamism characterized by asymmetry. Ultimately, his goal as an artist is to bring joy and a sense of wonder to those who encounter his work. He aims to elicit smiles through changes, twists, and exaggerations that reveal new perspectives on the familiar, all while pursuing art that holds functionality. Through his creations, he invites viewers to explore a world where imagination and reality intertwine.
